UNCLE JOE BIDEN HIS TIME
The latest CNN polling data indicates that just five days after his formal announcement of his candidacy for the Democratic Presidential nomination, former Vice President Joe Biden has opened up a commanding lead on his opposition. According to the latest data, Biden enjoys a 39% to 15% lead over his nearest rival, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. The next nearest rivals don’t even break into double digits, with Senator Elizabeth Warren polling at 8%, Mayor Pete Buttigieg 7%, Beto O’Rourke of Texas 6% and Senator Kamala Harris of California 5%. The rest of the field of twenty, the same size as the number of thoroughbreds who will be running in the Kentucky Derby in my hometown of Louisville this weekend, don’t even register numbers worth showing. Prior to his announcement, Biden’s lead over Sanders was 28% to 19%, so his active involvement has given him a significant bump in the polls. It has been my contention all along that Joe Biden offers the Democrats the best opportunity to oust the buffoon currently occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in November of 2020. Biden isn’t afraid to confront the lies, misinformation and bullying tactics Trump employs against his opponents, and CROOKED DONALD actually appears to understand this. He is already crying about the press making Biden the front runner in the field, a sure sign he is nervous about Biden being his opponent. Biden has the experience and wherewithal to navigate the political minefield that the upcoming primary process will undoubtedly reveal to all concerned, and is conservative enough in his ideology as to not scare off the moderate voters in either party who are looking for a return to the normalcy of a government that is of the people, by the people and for the people as opposed to of Trump, by Trump and for Trump that we have witnessed over the last two and a half years. The problem with the other contenders is that they are too far left of our political center. While Warren, Buttigieg and Harris all have presented meaningful policy positions on key issues like health care, education and gun regulation that could be incorporated into the eventual Democratic platform, they are viewed as too far left of center to be electable. Bernie Sanders is in essence a Socialist (the REPUBLIKANS would have a field day with him!!) and nobody knows what Beto stands for, including him. I honestly don’t believe ANY of these other candidates are viable to mainstream America, though any one of them, especially one of the women contenders, would make an excellent choice of a running mate for Joe Biden come summer of 2020. Trump is going to get his 35% base to support him no matter what he says or does as has been proven over the last couple of years. The key to the Democrats defeating him will be to appeal to those voters who voted for him in 2016 but have absolutely no desire to do so in 2020, and a centrist like Joe Biden can attract this group, as well as the mainstream of the Democratic Party. The real challenge for Biden will be to bring those on the far left of the party back into the fold while maintaining his grip on the center. This will not be easy given the current mood of a number of progressive Democrats, like those House freshmen we keep hearing too much about. At any rate, the entire process is way out of control. We are still over a year and a half away from the next election, and yet the candidates and media all behave as if the election were being held tomorrow. As we have seen in the last two plus years, a lot can happen between now and then. Trump could be found guilty of any one of a number of financial misdeeds or criminal acts between now and then, and it’s still not too late to talk about his impeachment, although it appears Democrats like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi either don’t have the stomach for it or view it as a political misstep, both positions which I reject. Trump was NOT vindicated by the Mueller report, and there are a number of ongoing financial investigations which could reveal far more damaging information to his presidency. I’m talking about his tax returns, the Deutsche Bank loans, the Trump Foundation, the Trump Inauguration Committee etc. We haven’t heard the last on ANY of these issues, despite the fact that CROOKED DONALD and his sycophants like Attorney General William (DIS)Barr, Treasury Secretary Steve (the Munchkin) Mnuchin and Senator Lindsey Graham(CRACKER) are all doing their best to make these serious allegations disappear. I believe the Democratic House will have a say in these matters as will the courts eventually. Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and there is way too much smoke and way too much resistance to reveal for their NOT to be something amiss. You can take that to the (Deutsche) bank!!!! So hang on to your hats, folks, it’s going to be a long ride between now and November of 2020. As we have seen with the previous Presidential election, ANYTHING can happen, including the election of the most crooked and incompetent individual to EVER hold the office. In the meanwhile, my money is on Uncle Joe. I think he offers the country the best opportunity to rid ourselves of the current occupant of the Oval Office and return us to some degree of normalcy. His record speaks for itself, as does Trump’s. For any REAL American, the choice is a no brainer.
