These are words being uttered now by such champions of democracy as Senators Rand Paul, Ron Johnson, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and other REPUBLIKAN(T)S in the wake of the insurrection incited by their words and those of Donald Trump just three short weeks ago. McConnell went from saying Trump incited the mob to voting against holding him responsible, along with all but five other of their colleagues.
This party has become the party of the far right, bought and paid for by Donald Trump and his so called base, which we now know includes dangerous armed militia groups, right wing extremists and those intent on destroying our democratic processes. They continue to believe that somehow the election was “stolen” from them and their tyrannical leader as conspiracy theories abound and continue to be promoted by the right wing media, FAUX NEWS, OANN and Rush Limbaugh, among others. This despite Trump’s very own DOJ and DHS calling it the “most secure in American history”. They don’t care. To each and every one of these seditious and lying politicians and their supporters, I simply say this: WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!! You will ultimately be held responsible for your words and actions where it counts the most…at the ballot box. Your party’s politics of exclusion, falsehoods and fantasy have moved beyond the realm of decency and into the darkest spot in our history. Imagine the party of Lincoln now being the party of Trump and what that very sentence entails. And to think I quit the party myself nearly ten years ago because of the actions of George W. Bush?!? I’d be embarrassed to call myself a REPUBLIKAN(T) today, but obviously these people don’t give a damn about democracy or decency, only their own self perpetuation. You are despicable.

Like the severe thunderstorm that turned into a tornado and wreaked untold damage and destruction, Donald J. Trump is departing the White House for the last time. It couldn’t come a moment too soon as our democracy, which he has attacked since the day of his inauguration four terribly long years ago, which is teetering on the verge of calamity after the unprecedented attack on our nation’s Capitol two weeks ago today. Although he has tried to distance himself from inciting this insurrection, we all know differently. But I’m not going to dwell on that as I believe the media has glorified these treasonous bastards too much already with the constant coverage. Instead, I want to look to the future and hope that President Joe Biden can bring some semblance of normalcy back to our nation, can throw every available resource at the horrible pandemic that has killed over 400,000 of our fellow citizens, a pandemic that Trump chose to downplay and ignore for political gain. I hope he can restore some vestige of the image of America the world knew before the tornado struck. And with the Democrats now in control of Congress as well, the days of McConnell’s obstructionist antics and a do nothing agenda are hopefully over as well. I have been writing this blog for four years now hoping this day would come. Of my over 500 posts to it, the vast majority were about Donald Trump and the irreparable damage he was doing. Now those days are over. I hope we can all agree that it is indeed a new day in America, and like the sunshine after the storm we can all come together to start repairing the damage left in the storm’s wake. The events which unfolded last Wednesday, January 6, 2021, a date which will indeed live in infamy in the history of our republic, only confirmed what I have been writing about for the past four years. Donald J. Trump, the President of the United States of America openly called on his followers to forcibly overthrow the government by inciting them to attack Congress, the very citadel of our democracy. And they did, and people died. For this he and his confederates, literally and figuratively, MUST be held accountable, irrespective of how many days he has left in office. As of today, the House of Representatives is drafting the Article(s) of Impeachment to remove him from office.
For four years this man has defiled our Constitution, broken countless laws with zero accountability and bullied the once proud Republican Party into complete submission. He has done so with the complete endorsement of individuals in Congress itself, from House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy to Senator Ted Cruz to his bumbling personal attorney Rudy Guilian, who called for “combat”. His family, especially Don Jr. are equally culpable, he by actually stating prior to Wednesday’s insanity to Congress “we’re coming to get you and it’s gonna be fun”. I wonder if those that perished or were seriously injured in the mayhem thought it was fun?!? Last Wednesday was the culmination of all of this. There’s no purpose in revisiting what took place. It’s my opinion that the mainstream media is partly to blame by continuing to replay the events over and over again. What matters now is holding those responsible for the insurrection accountable to the full extent of the law. Already dozens of arrests of the thugs involved have taken place since they were stupid enough to take their own pictures. This will hopefully continue until every last one of these lunatics is arrested and charged with whatever crime they committed. More importantly, we have to bring Trump and his allies to justice, including removing him from office, indicting him for insurrection against the United States government and all of the other violations of the laws which he has committed over the past four years. Numerous questions remain as to how this could have ever happened in the first place. For weeks social media, which has now banned Trump across multiple platforms (FINALLY!) has been filled with ominous warnings about what was to come, and he himself promised it was “going to be wild”. It was, Mr. President. Of the 2200 member Capitol Police force, only 500 or so were on duty as the mob gathered. The Police Chief of D.C. actually stated there wasn’t intelligence to suggest what was going to take place. Seriously?!? It took more than an hour and a half of desperate pleas for help from individual Congressional members who were under siege before the Defense Department chain of command responded. These incredible miscalculations were either a result of incredible incompetence, indifference or complicity, all of which will be determined during the investigations sure to follow. As we approach one week until President Elect Joe Biden is sworn in, there must be a massive police and military presence prepared to defend our Capitol from more promised actions by these militia groups and right wing terrorists. If necessary, they should employ deadly force against any such attempts to duplicate the disaster that unfolded before our eyes and the eyes of the world. The “Arsenal of Democracy” must remain so instead of the “Arsenal of Insanity”. I don’t care if it takes the entire 101st Airborne Division, tanks or machine guns to secure the transition of power, it MUST be done. I promised to go dark until January 20th but obviously given the circumstances and what transpired last week I simply cannot remain silent about the attempt to overturn our democracy at the hands of the very man I have been warning about since the day he was inaugurated. Saying I told you so doesn’t mean a thing right now-it’s holding Trump and his allies who mounted this insurrection accountable for their actions. There's something happening here But what it is ain't exactly clear There's a man with a gun over there Telling me I got to beware I think it's time we stop Children, what's that sound? Everybody look, what's going down? There's battle lines being drawn Nobody's right if everybody's wrong Young people speaking their minds Getting so much resistance from behind It's time we stop Hey, what's that sound? Everybody look, what's going down? What a field day for the heat (Ooh ooh ooh) A thousand people in the street (Ooh ooh ooh) Singing songs and they carrying signs (Ooh ooh ooh) Mostly say, "Hooray for our side" (Ooh ooh ooh) It's time we stop Hey, what's that sound? Everybody look, what's going down? Paranoia strikes deep Into your life it will creep It starts when you're always afraid Step out of line, the men come and take you away We better stop Hey, what's that sound? Everybody look, what's going down? You better stop Hey, what's that sound? Everybody look, what's going down? You better stop Now, what's that sound? Everybody look, what's going down? You better stop Children, what's that sound? Everybody look, what's going down? (BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD/STEPHEN STILLS) I swore a couple of weeks back I was going dark until 12:01 p.m. on January 20th when President Elect Joe Biden takes office. However, the breaking news this morning from Georgia necessitates a response, and all I can say is it’s a GLORIOUS DAY in America!!! It now appears that both Democratic Senate candidates in Georgia have beaten their Republican(t) opponents thereby assuring that their party will now control BOTH Houses of Congress as well as the White House!!! It also means MOSCOW Mitch McConnell’s long reign of terror as Senate Majority Leader is OVER!!! Glory Halleluyah!!! It also means that as President Joe Biden will be able to accomplish his agenda without the obstructionist Senate blocking his every move like they did to former President Barrack Obama. This is great news for our country, which has been torn asunder by the politics of Donald Trump AND his Republikan(t) party. To date, 357,000 of our fellow citizens have perished from the pandemic, the same one that Trump has essentially ignored from the very beginning a year ago. His handling of the vaccine roll out has been a monumental catsastrophe-where TWENTY MILLION vaccinations were promised by V.P. Mike “I’M A LITTLE DENSE” Pence a few weeks back so far less than FIVE million have actually been administered. Every day that goes by now sees record numbers of cases, deaths and hospitalizations from Covid-19 and Donald Trump plays golf. President Elect Biden has promised to invoke the Defense Production Act to get this program back on track, something Trump has steadfastly refused to do from the beginning of the crisis when PPE and other medical equipment were in short supply. The final curtain on this disastrous Presidency will be coming down today when Congress certifies the election results DESPITE the antics of a handful of these same Republikan(t) dirt bags who have supported this incompetent and corrupt man throughout, buffoons like Ted Cruz who have planned on contesting the votes of over EIGHT MILLION Americans. Here’s breaking news for them too-your days of facilitating and enabling are as over as Trump’s presidency!!! And a couple of final thank you's. THANK YOU Donald Trump for ripping the Georgia Republikan(t) party apart over your ridiculous claims of voter fraud and driving the Democratic party in the state to organize and overcome all of the efforts at voter suppression and the negative TV commercials sponsored by yours truly MOSCOW Mitch. And a special THANK YOU to the voters of Georgia in the urban areas like Atlanta who were able to turn the tables on the rural rednecks who have previously controlled the vote, including my own daughter who lives in Atlanta. America is alive and well again today as a result of this unprecedented voter turnout in what has previously been a state as Red as the faces of the LOSERS Loeffler and Perdue (BTW don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!!!). The Trumpers can have their last hurrah in D.C. today in their absurd protests to overturn the results of a democratic election that was deemed “the safest most secure in American history” by Trump’s own DHS and DOJ. To them I offer the following advice…I hope you assholes enjoy the next four years as much as I have the last four under the incredibly bankrupt and failed leadership of your golden idol. And BTW in closing-FU!!! Our republic and its institutions held up against the biggest threat to our democracy since Richard Nixon. For that we can all be thankful. I am There are a number of milestones one achieves upon certain of their birthdays while on this earth, turning sixteen, twenty one, thirty, forty and fifty for sure (sixty not so much!). In less than two weeks I will reach my seventieth at a point in my life where neither I nor anybody else EVER expected to be, that is going on close to a full year of basic isolation. While there is light at the end of the Covid tunnel, (my birthday puts me in the 1B vaccination protocol, which will hopefully happen in the next couple of months) the ever present threat of contracting this deadly virus which has claimed 350,000 or so of my fellow Americans, many of whom were age seventy or above hangs over our heads day after day month after month. It certainly isn’t the way I was expecting to celebrate this consequential event. But be that as it may, here I am about to begin my seventh decade on this journey we call life. I had written a previous post some time back about the incredible events which have unfolded in my lifetime, from landing a man on the moon to the cell phone, the latter which has changed our lives in a way nobody ever dreamed possible. Instead of the “Golden Book” encyclopedias which we depended upon for information when I was a child we now have information on virtually ANY subject right at our fingertips. Some changes are for the betterment of mankind, others not so much, but just imagine going through the last ten months or so WITHOUT a cell phone, Zoom or Netflix. I know myself I couldn’t have gotten through without them. My career in business was full of ups and downs, from earning an income in six figures in the eighties to being terminated from my last job by e mail!! Fortunately, I do not measure my success on that basis but rather focus on the legacy I will be leaving behind, from my four wonderful children to my seven grandchildren thus far. I am so proud of each of them and their spouses for being accomplished in their own ways with outstanding careers in engineering, science, education and law, each of them a college graduate and a couple with advanced degrees. When my time comes, I’ll be fulfilled in the knowledge that there will be a solid legacy left behind. I am sorry to have lost my mother this past year to Covid, but she was ninety six years old and the end came mercifully quick for her as she passed in her sleep only a couple of days after being diagnosed. I am thankful to still have my brother and sisters as well as my extended family. I am thankful for over thirty five years of being married to a truly remarkable lady who has been a real partner through it all despite my numerous shortcomings. As I look ahead I am hopeful by the end of this year this entire nightmare of the pandemic will be in the rear view mirror for all of us as the vaccinations become ever inclusive for all. In the meanwhile, please stay safe. I’ll be thinking about everybody when I hit that milestone that seemed so far removed when I was thirty or even forty and look forward to another few years on this earth at least. |
