TIME TO DITCH “RICH” MITCH VOLUME III
I first wrote these posts over a year ago, before the mid term elections. Now that those are behind us, and as we approach the 2020 election cycle, it’s time to revisit the subject of Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority leader from Kentucky, my home state. As we have seen in the time since these posts were written, McConnell has done further damage to our democratic process by a number of his actions, or lack thereof. He has once again stood by on the sidelines while Donald Trump has run roughshod over Constitutional norms and been implicated in obstruction of justice charges by the Mueller Report; McConnell recently invoked the so called “nuclear option” in the Senate in order to get his right wing conservative judges confirmed in the Senate, and will undoubtedly play a key role in blocking any attempt to impeach Trump. He also just recently announced his reelection campaign, which is why I am reposting these pieces. The NUMBER ONE priority of the national Democratic Party, aside from defeating Trump, should be to put “RICH” Mitch on the sidelines by either flipping the Senate or by defeating McConnell in 2020. In order to do so, they are going to have to step up their game considerably. It will be very difficult to defeat McConnell in a state so red it looks like Tiger’s golf shirt on Sunday, especially with all of the huge corporate donations he has pouring into his vault as a result of the preferential treatment he has afforded such special interest groups as the NRA and the coal industry. The Democrats need to put forth a SERIOUS challenger to his Senate seat, not Allison Lundergran Grimes who he crushed by over 15% points in 2014. I have suggested that perhaps John Yarmouth would be the ideal opponent, but with Democrats now in the majority in the House and Yarmouth chairing the key House Budget Committee, it is highly unlikely he would run against McConnell. However, we should also note that McConnell is extremely unpopular in his home city, hardly able to go out for dinner on Saturday night without being confronted or heckled by the political opposition. I believe he is vulnerable in the big cities of Louisville and Lexington, and the Democrats should consider this when deciding on a potential opponent to him in next year’s election. The Kentucky Democratic Party has taken a serious whuppin over the last number of years, ceding control of the Governor’s mansion as well as both Houses of the legislature to the REPUBLIKANS, led by “RICH” Mitch. It’s time to change the course of history and return him to the private sector. His shelf life has expired. RICH McConnell, Senate Majority Leader Friend of Bankers, Big Business and the 1% There is a single individual in the United States Congress who has done more damage to this country than Donald Trump could ever hope to, and he is Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. Aside from the fact that he has stood by silently time after time while Trump has disparaged one group after another from Blacks, Hispanics, Haitians and Africans among others, touted racist demonstrators in Charlottesville, VA as fine people, he has failed to deliver on any number of Republikan campaign promises such as the repeal and replacement of Obamacare. He has brokered the worst tax reform bill ever, one that effectively will raise taxes for the middle class while giving huge tax breaks to corporate Amerika, and now brags about how he and his party are going to “sell it to the American people” like it’s a good deal for us. The numbers suggest otherwise. McConnell, as Senate Minority Leader during the previous administration, made it his stated goal to limit President Obama’s time in office to one term-he failed. He made it his stated goal to never bring Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland up for a vote in the Senate, and succeeded. He then, thru parliamentary procedural maneuvering, insured the confirmation of Trump conservative nominee Neil Gorsuch, defying forty years of tradition and abusing the forefathers’ intended confirmation procedure called “advise and consent” to satisfy his parties political agenda. He was almost single handedly responsible for the passage of legislation which effectively ended the limits on political contributions from individuals and corporations, thereby allowing individuals like the Koch brothers to pour 700 million dollars into our last election to sway the vote to their right wing, pro business conservative agenda, to say nothing of the huge $ amounts funneled into party coffers by the Oil & Gas industry, the Pharmaceutical industry, the Banking Industry and Wall Street firms which are then utilized to pass legislation designed to increase their profits at the expense of the very workers who keep their companies running. It is a never ending cycle. The only solution to solving these issues and restoring our Congress back to the people who these politicians are supposed to represent is to sweep the floor clean of all of them! Guys like Mitch (Rich) McConnell, who have been around so long because the Democratic party can’t find a suitable candidate to oppose him thereby insuring this wimpish kid from the south end of town another six years in office. I am optimistic that come November, the grass roots movement to clean house of these Republican stooges will succeed and return Mitch back to the role he so “richly” deserves-Minority Leader. In the meanwhile, watch your backs when these guys start looking to cut our so called “entitlements” as a way of paying for the huge corporate tax cuts-Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security. “RICH” MITCH McCONNELL-DESTROYER OF DEMOCRACY The Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell of my home state of Kentucky finally spoke out AGAINST something CROOKED DONALD did-his absurd tariffs imposed on Europe, Canada and Mexico to protect the less than 150,000 employed in the steel and aluminum industries. These countries have retaliated against home grown products like bourbon, soybeans and other farm products by imposing their own tariffs, which would obviously be detrimental to the Commonwealth’s economy. This in turn, would be detrimental to his reelection bid scheduled for 2020. That is ALL he cares about! I was reading the other day McConnell is about to become the longest tenured Majority leader in Senate history-that fact alone should tell us all we need to know about the current and recent past history of Congress and its composition. That a totally inconspicuous bookish looking former county executive from Louisville, KY could become the most powerful politician in Washington is almost inconceivable to a guy who grew up in his home town. It is more inconceivable that he has been more responsible for the political nightmare we find ourselves in at present than ANY other individual in the past decade, Presidents included. His actions and those of his REPUBLIKAN cronies in changing campaign finance regulations, obstructing the entire agenda of Barrack Obama for eight years with the glaring exception of the passage of “Obamacare”, and in judicial appointments of right wing conservative judges who will carry out their agenda, including his unprecedented blocking of Obama’s Supreme Court nominee in order to get Neil Gorsuch appointed by President elect Trump instead have completely changed the entire political landscape in America, and I think everyone can judge for themselves the results based upon the current abysmal state of politics in our country. He has stood idly by while Trump has waged war on the poor and needy, stood by while members of CROOKED DONALD’S cabinet have continuously abused their positions with lavish and outrageous expenditures at taxpayer expense, championed the biggest tax fraud EVER perpetrated upon the American public, said nothing about the ongoing investigation into Trump and Russian collusion in the 2016 election and the subsequent cover up. He falsely claims that the “war on coal” and the loss of jobs for thousands of miners were the result of Obama’s policies when in fact it was pure economics that have destroyed coal as a viable energy source (unless you’re Donald Trump, who still champions the cause and gives false hope to those who should be retraining for another occupation instead of believing their old mining jobs will ever come back). He has sold his political influence to whatever corporate bidder is willing to add to the party coffers, including the NRA. But the one time he speaks out is when the actions of POTUS directly threaten his dream of serving for another six years beyond 2020. He could care less about the jobs Kentucky stands to lose if Trump moves forward with these tariffs (that policy changes day to day, so stay tuned!), just the fact that it could cost him votes down the road. The sad fact of life is that the Democratic Party has only ONE true candidate who stands ANY chance of retiring McConnell in 2020, and that is Congressman John Yarmouth. He is a liberal from Louisville who is independently wealthy and therefore cannot be bought and sold like “RICH” Mitch and has a strong Congressional record of achievement. He has never indicated a willingness to go head to head with McConnell, but this might be the opportunity he has been waiting for. Otherwise, the only Democratic candidate who has announced plans to run against him is a Lexington sportscaster with absolutely NO chance of winning an election against McConnell. I hope that the Democrats can mount a strong campaign in the fall and take back the House of Representatives. It is doubtful they can regain a majority in the Senate in the mid term elections, but a Democratic House would certainly act as an additional check and balance mechanism against the actions of the REPUBLIKAN party, “RICH” Mitch McConnell and CROOKED DONALD, for as long as he lasts after the impeachment proceedings commence. Too bad we can’t impeach McConnell-his leadership in the Senate has been an absolute travesty for middle class Americans. His deliberate actions to sway the political balance of power in favor of his corporate donors and those of the wealthiest Americans have helped create the biggest income gap in history, and it will only get worse the longer this insidious campaign is allowed to continue.
